The Wangaratta Netball Committee would like to thank the Bendigo Bank who donated half the money and arranged a Defibulator for our association. This is a much welcomed life saving machine which we hope we never have to use but will have the piece of mind to know we’re prepared if someone needs it.

WNA SUPPORTS PINK DAY
On Saturday 8th May, WNA along with many other netball and football clubs across Victoria, took part in Pink Day, organised by Breast Cancer Network Australia.
The aim of the day was to raise awareness of the prevalance of breast cancer within the community, and if possible to raise funds for the organisation's on-going work and research.
Packs which included a pink netball, balloons, pink lady cutouts and information, were purchased by the association from BCNA.
During the morning, all matches were played using a pink ball. Balloons, pink ladies and pink lolly sticks, were distributed to all team members.
Throughout the morning members of the Wangaratta Breast Cancer Support group, took up a collection which will be forwarded to BCNA. Due to the generousity of spectators and players $755 was raised. Through the sale of some of the pink balls the total now stands at $850.
After the games, visiting collectors and committee members enjoyed morning tea, featuring pink cakes.

Introduction to Netball
A free training night was held for new players on the 17 March 2009. Beginners were shown netball basics by some of our more experienced players. We hope to see all those who came along when the season starts.

WNA's Japanese Netball Player
Mayu Koyanagi has been an exchange Japanese language teacher at Wangaratta West primary school for 2 years. She has experienced many aspects of Australian life, among these was playing netball in the WNA Wednesday night competition. No other international has participated in the competition for an extended period.
As Mayu prepares to return to Japan at the end of April, the association thanked her for taking part, wished her well for the future and presented her with a WNA sports shirt. Picture above centre shows Mayu with team mate and work collegue Maria Pomponio.

Umpires
During the past two years WNA has had 22 umpires gain a C grade badge (16 of these from the development squads). A fantastic effort, Bernadette Sirianni as mentor has contributed a great deal to this result. During 2008 Bernie also gained a B grade badge, which requires many hours of umpiring and study both within our association and neighbouring competitions.

The Umpire Development Squad initiative of Wangaratta Netball Association now in its second year offers our young umpires extra mentoring and training.Umpires are provided with WNA umpires top and a sports bag containing socks, a drink bottle, a rule book and a whistle.

All members of the squad have already completed basic training and have umpired for at least 1 year.
